Instagram has emerged from Bourbon Whiskey and Golden Retrievers

    Yes, you read that right!
Since its launch in 2010, Instagram has attracted a billion users worldwide. Founded by Kevin Systrom and Mike Kreiger, It has emerged to be one of the most popular media platforms.

But did you know that the popular photo and video sharing platform Instagram was inspired by bourbon whiskeys and golden retrievers in its initial stages?

Kevin Systrom is a Stanford graduate who had previously worked at Google and Twitter. He had no training in computer science and therefore, learned to code eventually and built a prototype of a web app called “Burbn” which was inspired by Systrom’s taste for fine whiskeys.
This prototype was later presented to Mike Kreiger, an experienced engineer, who was then working for the social media platform “Meebo.” He guided Systrom to make necessary developments and advancements to the prototype. This led to the creation of this as we know it today.
Kevin Systrom uploaded the first photo in the app on July 16, 2010, when Instagram was known as Codename.
This picture was of a golden retriever taken at a taco stand in Mexico called “Tacos Chilakos”, captioned with the word “test.”

Today, Instagram hosts around 40 billion photos and videos with 9 million posts per day. Needless to say, Instagram does prove to be effective when it comes to making people as well as animals into celebrities!
