Jio Platforms Limited (Jio) has been creating a massive digital ecosystem for a billion Indians. The platform company has successfully allowed easy internet access even in the most remote areas of the country.
Recently, there have been many rumors circulating about the foundation of Reliance Jio. It is believed by many media portals that Mukesh Ambani’s daughter, Isha Ambani faced issues while accessing the internet back in 2011 which led to the birth of Jio.
However, you’d be surprised to know that this story has recently been proven to be fake.
The idea of Jio emerged much before 2011. Mukesh Ambani, the founder of Reliance Jio, already had a well-organized plan to develop Jio since 2005.
For the next decade, he carefully executed the plan little by little. The idea of Jio is rooted in the infamous dispute within the Ambani family. In early 2005, there was a split between Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani due to which the telecom business was entirely handed over to Anil Ambani.
After many court hearings, Mukesh Ambani was finally allowed to own the telecom sector of Reliance. In 2010, during the auction of 4G licenses by Infotel Broadband, Reliance Industries acquired a 95% stake in Infotel. In late 2015, Jio launched 4G Services across India for a controlled test that led to the official launch of the services in December 2015.
Today, Reliance has achieved the top position among all the telecom operators in India.
